KIT is exploring the possibilities of mHealth to prevent a further (digital) gap between high income countries (HIC) and low and middle income countries (LMIC), and to possibly narrow the existing gap.
KIT wants to create, share and apply knowledge on mHealth technology in order to improve access to and quality of health and health care in LMIC. We aim to have a long-term impact by increasing the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of community health care, particularly in areas that are underserved by health services, such as rural and/or remote areas in LMIC and difficult to reach groups such as young people.
Limitations to consider for mHealth interventions include for example gender inequalities in terms of access to technology, costs of mobile communications, unreliability of networks and data confidentiality issues.
Current components/initiatives of mHealth projects at KIT are outlined on the following pages.
